Counselor's Message

It is time for seniors to apply to college.  CSU and UC applications are done on-line.  The address to apply to a CSU is www.csumentor.com.  The application period for CSU's is from Oct. 1-Nov. 30.  Students should apply as soon as possible.  To apply to a CSU, students will need their high school transcript as the application will require classes they have taken, grades received, gpa and SAT or ACT scores.  For both CSU and UC's, SAT and ACT scores must be sent from the appropriate agency.  To send SAT scores, go to www.collegeboard.com.  To send ACT scores, go to www.actstudent.org.  The application period for UC's is from Nov. 1-Nov. 30.  Once again, apply on-line at www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions.  On the UC application you must submit your classes, grades, gpa, SAT reasoning and subject scores, or ACT scores.  Once again, the appropriate agency must send the SAT or ACT scores.  The UC application also includes areas to list activities, honors and awards and community service.  Three short essays are also included.  To apply to private colleges and universities, you must go to each school's website.  The website will contain the application and the date it is due.  Many private colleges and universities use the Common Application.  That application can be found at www.commonapp.org.

A very helpful website is www.californiacolleges.edu.  This website contains links to 200 colleges and universities in California.  The website also contains a wealth of other information such as information on majors and careers.
